Getting involved

Seattle Women of Design & UX

I co-founded Seattle Women of Design & UX in 2017 to provide Seattle women and non-binary people an opportunity to network, learn, mentor and support each other in design and UX. We have regular meetups that give our 3,300+ members opportunities to learn from others in their field, hone their presentation skills, and work with each other in an empowering environment.

I organize and run regular workshops and events with different hosts, speakers, and sponsors on top of having built a team of organizers, volunteers, and facilitators to scale the cadence and reach of events. See our latest events

Teaching

School of Visual Concepts

SVC teaches a UX Certificate program to help people fill knowledge gaps and start new careers.

I have taught several “Fundamentals of UX” courses, developed the materials and interactive exercises that educate about a human-centered UX process, focusing on a practical application of UX principles. I also mentor students on how to effectively practice UX and advance their careers, and provide detailed feedback on portfolios and interview presentations.

Computing for All

Computing for All is a nonprofit committed to helping underrepresented students prepare for and secure successful STEM careers.

I built a partnership with CFA and Smartsheet leaders to create CFAs first 8-week UX Design program, developed and run by the Smartsheet UX team. I also coordinated a pilot internship program for CFA students to educate and further the career of two students from underserved schools in Seattle. Created opportunities within the Smartsheet UX team to build mentorship and coaching skills.

Mentorship

Mentorship is a key part of building a career as a UX Designer. It helps you network and create reliable, trusting relationships throughout your career. Being a mentor means you can sharpen your leadership and coaching skills. I use it as an opportunity to reflect on what I know and have learned over my career, and translate that to actionable resources for those I mentor. As a mentee, I know there is always more to learn, and ways to grow from different experiences and perspectives far from my own. Read my mentorship framework
